Is your computer running on Windows Vista suffering from an agonizingly slow start-up process. There are many different methods that you can speed up the start-up process, and you don't even have to be a tech savvy computer guru to do it. Just follow these three simple methods and you'll be booting your system up faster than before.
Method 1: Use the Sleep Option
You can use the sleep option to send your computer into a very low power state. It shuts down power to all components, except for your RAM memory. The sleep option is exceptionally useful for when you want to leave your desk for an extended period of time but do not want to close any open windows or programs that you are currently using. Whenever you get ready to start using the computer again, simply tap a key on the keyboard and the system will come back online exactly how you left it.
Method 2: Uninstall Unnecessary Programs
Most computers come bundled with pre-installed software that many people never use. One of the reasons that computers from the big computer manufacturers are able to sell their systems so cheaply is that some software companies pay big licensing fees to them hoping that you'll use the programs and buy them from the software developer. Some of the larger culprits of this kind of practice are the larger antivirus companies. They provide you with a 60 day trial in the hopes that you will renew their software. Trust me, there are better programs out there than the ones that come bundled with your computer. Uninstall the programs that you have no intention of using. This will not only help while booting the system up, but it will also free up some space on your hard drive.
Method 3: Disabling Start-up Services
This is one of the best ways to speed up your computer's start-up time. Whenever your computer boots up, there are a series of programs that will be started. These include, but are not limited to things like your audio drivers, antivirus software, and programs that the computer might need to run. Unfortunately not all of these services are exactly necessary. This is why Microsoft gives you the option to prevent these services from loading at start-up. Simply go to your run menu by clicking on the Windows Start Orb>All Programs>Accessories>Run. Then type in "msconfig" without the quotations around it. Hit enter and the system configuration utility will open. Select the "Startup" tab and read through this list. You can uncheck any of these programs that you do not want to run on start-up. Be very careful when using this method. If you don't know what something is, Google the start-up item, and the manufacturer to see what exactly it does. Accept the changes and then restart the system for the changes to take effect.
